GM has a habit of overlapping model year trucks, Silverado and Sierra. Which do I have?

For instance model year 2007 has two totally different trucks when it comes to replacement parts. If you order side view door mirrors for the 2007 Silverado Classic or 2007 Sierra Classic and you have the New body style, they will not bolt up. They have a different door and mounting configuration. Door handles are the same issue, however, visually they are easily distinguished.

The 2007' Classic is a name of the last generation truck GMT-800 so it won't get confused with the new generation GMT-900's.

The GMT800 was the platform for the 1999 - 2006 Chevrolet and GMC full-size trucks.

In this article we will use the terms Classic (1999-2007*) and New Body Style (2007*-2013)

The derived GMT820 and GMT830 was used in the Chevrolet Tahoe, Chevrolet Suburban, and the GMC Yukon and Yukon XL full-size SUVs. The GMT 800 platform was introduced in 1999 Some Late 06 models were sold as 07's and are referred to as the 07 Classic so as not to be confused with the New GMT900 Series 2003 thru 2007 Classic – all have the same plug-in for the side view mirrors – they are interchangeable for the different features on your mirror. Power operated mirrors also have heat/defrost. May owners do not know they have the heat feature in their mirrors. The heat/defrost feature is activated with defrost for the rear window. If you have a split rear window (without defrost) there is a separate button for the mirror heat/defrost.

GMT = GM-Truck
